Pickles in Christmas Trees

Posted by in Random on December 22nd, 2007

Nothing says Merry Christmas quite like a ornament, in the shape of a pickle that is. Like many families around the world, many of us have certain holiday traditions that we anticipate (or dread) as the blessed day approaches. For my family one of the Christmas traditions that we really enjoy is the pickle ornament. It is a supposed German tradition called Weihnachtsgurke. On Christmas Eve someone hides the ornament in the branches of the Christmas tree and in the morning whoever finds it first gets an extra present and a year of good luck. Not a bad deal! We also have the tradition of eating delicious hamburgers and shakes at Portillos on Christmas Eve. That tradition, I believe, is of American decent.

What are your traditions? What makes the holidays special to you? We really believe that it is those things, what we choose to remember and take time to do this time of year, that makes Christmas what it is. Whether it is something small, like pickle ornaments or something big, like celebrating God’s enormous love for us, we hope you are able to take time and enjoy all that Christmas has to offer. We hope and pray that each and every one of you, our friends, has a very Merry Christmas!!

JORDIN SPARKS, ALICE COOPER, RULE29

$125,000 Reasons

Posted by in Random on December 20th, 2007

What does a great cause, country music, oldies but goodies, American Idol®, dancing, Santa, Rule29, comedy and Alice Cooper have in common? It must be the 7th installment of the Alice Cooper’s Christmas Pudding! Rule29 joined a host of stars, 3,000 attendees and 15 sponsors to help raise $125,000 for Solid Rock. Solid Rock is raising money to build “The Rock,” a $7.3 million multi-use teen center on land donated by Grand Canyon University in central Phoenix. Events such as Christmas Pudding, Alice’s Celebrity golf tournaments, and capital development efforts such as the “Donor of a Square Foot” campaign help bring the organization closer to its goal.

Attendees enjoyed performances by Alice Cooper, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, Arizona fan favorite Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, CTA, featuring Danny Seraphine and Marc Bonilla, Whiskey Falls, Flo & Eddie (The Turtles), comedian Brad Perry, the world’s fastest painter, Rock DeMarco, comedian Thomas Bond, and the Destiny Dancers, an international dance troupe managed by Sheryl Cooper, as well as Brewed to Perfection and Shaun Patrick Moe, the 2007 “Proof is in the Pudding” winners.

Solid Rock has been an organization to which Rule29 has donated the majority of their time for the last 12 years. For more on their mission and what they are all about check out Alice Cooper’s Christmas Pudding. By the way, if you want a great pre-holiday pause – come out to AZ next year for the 8th serving!

Holiday Tip: How to Make a Magic Bow

Posted by in Random on December 13th, 2007

Tis the season (to use the word tis). This week we’re learning magic. Unfortunately, there are no rabbits here… but bows are pretty awesome too. So here is everything you need to know to make a magic bow and all you need is a spool of ribbon and some holiday mojo. Good luck!!

1. Find any spooled ribbon, then take the end and firmly grasp inner ribbons with one hand. Let the entire ribbon dangle freely downward.
2. Fold back the two outside tails and crease.
3. Gently, but firmly, slide fingers down along inner ribbons until bow is completely formed and secured.
4. Grasp backside of bow between thumb and forefinger. Pinch firmly to set loops.
5. Press the bow to box, wrap bands around box and tape ends or trim excess ribbon if desired.

    The Chicago Spire

Posted by in Uncategorized on December 11th, 2007

Another great piece of architecture is potentially only a few years away from enhancing Chicago’s already beautiful skyline. Chicago is graced with great architecture from Frank Gehry, Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies Van Der Roh, and Louis Sullivan, and this is just another great addition.

Rumor has it that around 2010 The Chicago Spire will be complete with homes for all from studios to penthouses. Santiago Calatrava is internationally recognized for his unique style that blends amazing structural engineering and architecture with various studies he has done of nature and the human body.

Some think that its “screw” like shape is an eye sore while others think it is the next step in great architecture and history for our windy city.

I am just excited to once again hold the record for tallest building in the states! And also catch up with our neighbor up top (Milwaukee) who already has a building from Calatrava.
