RULE29

High School Perspective

We have just finished our initial week with our first ever high school interns. And I have to admit that I have been impressed. The two lucky students are Jenn Lee and Erik Johnson from Wheaton Academy. Their assignment is to absorb 50 hours of Rule29ness and report back to their class on what they observed and have learned. We thought it would be fun to introduce you to them and show you the results of their experience both visually and verbally.

Some of Jenn’s expectations are, in her own words, “My goals for this internship are to get a better understanding of what all the positions there are in a graphic design firm are like, to develop my ability to be under pressure but still perform at my best, learn how to collaborate with others to produce designs, and to think outside of the box of simple design into the professional design world.”

Main assignment: Design a poster for the Southern California Poster Relief effort that would appeal to students from your high school.

Erik said, “Internship…Hmmm…So, I’ve never really known much about what goes on inside a Graphic Design Firm. I’ve always read Graphic Design books / magazines and seen stuff that firms produce, but I’ve never read about what it’s like to go into a firm.  And, seeing as how Graphic Design is something I’m considering for a profession, getting to experience a firm is important to me.”

Main assignment: Design a poster for that would appeal to students from your high school and educate them on the importance of being green. Check back a week from today for the results. Happy weekend!
