Times as they are, it’s pretty hard to believe that over $1.6 million was raised in one day – but it was for people who are much worse off than us. As you may know, the price of even basic food has skyrocketed around the world, causing a global food crisis, with millions of people facing starvation when they shouldn’t have to.
Compassion International launched the one-day initiative to fight the problem. They also partnered with Healing Waters International to tackle the lack of clean water around the world for World Water Day on March 22. Next up is World Malaria Day on April 25th. (They’ve been doing an interesting and educational series of questions to prep their blog readers for the day. Check it out here if you are interested.)
The great thing about Compassion is how they are one of the first organizations like themselves to so well-leverage social media. Their presence on the radio, blog, and social networks such as twitter and facebook (here, here, and here) combines forces to get the word out on their various initiatives and general news from around the world. This helps their donors feel involved and informed, being more willing to donate in the future. Good idea, huh?
This organization is also close to our hearts at Rule29 as two of our own sponsor children and other projects through Compassion, who partners with local churches and leaders to train, educate, and feed children and young adults in 25 countries.
Did you take the malaria quiz? How’d you do? I only got one right — going to do a little research later!

Good post Cheech. I’m continually impressed by the thoughtfulness of the people at R29 toward the global cause of poverty alleviation.
Thanks for all you do.
Sincerely,
Justin
