In an office environment, the square (or rectangle) is king…at least when it comes to paper. Countless sheets are commonly discarded without realizing their full potential. Sure, we all have our moments of doodling pleasure, where swirls, shapes, and type come together, but what happens when we ditch the ink and graphite?
Lately, we’ve seen a wave of designers and artists cranking out detailed paper masterworks with scissors and blades rather than the traditional writing utensils. The traditional paper snowflake on steroids–these works are truly mesmerizing. For some crazy kirigami inspiration check out the intricate paper patterns from Hunter Stabler, the cutout typography of Julene Harrison, whimsical art by Hina Aoyama, or the colorful creations of Jen Stark. We love that Stark has even experimented with animating her paper art into what she calls “Papermation“. These inspiring pieces have completely changed how we look at all our printer scraps.
And as for that colorful stack of post-it’s on your desk, it’s just waiting to become something fantastic. Now where’s that xacto?
