Cross-examination of Kellen

Posted by in Inside Rule29, R29 Fun on August 20th, 2009

Meet Kellen Scott. a.k.a. Intern number 17, The Marine, and Kellog. (More nicknames to follow) In the coming months he will be learning the ropes of the research, design, and production process here at Rule29. Almost like a design bootcamp. And like bootcamp, there will probably be pushups.

Like with some of our other fellow coworkers, we wanted to be nosy and find out a little more about our new staff member. So we compiled a list of only the most important questions to ask him. Click the link below to read the full interview.

R29: Any interesting ability one would be surprised by?

KS: I have a super loud snapping ability. I guess it’s from snapping at so many people in the military.

R29: Why did you choose to become a graphic designer?

KS: I had an interest back in high school, but never really thought about it as a career until college. After being a business major for two days, I switched to design. I just love that it’s all about solving problems in unique ways.

R29: Who is your favorite designer, and why?

KS: Print design - Massimo Vignelli, because of the modernism he brought to the table. And I also like the motion graphics work of Kyle Cooper.

R29: What do you like best about our office?

KS: Something I liked from even the first visit was that the environment here just cultivates creativity. It’s not stuffy or unapproachable. I can just think the way I normally think. There’s really no strict way of thinking already set in place.

R29: Why do you feel you will be the best intern? What make you different than the previous 16 we’ve had?

KS: I’m my hardest critic. I need to be satisfied first and last with everything I do.

R29: How many cups of coffee can you carry at one time? Remember, spillage equals disqualification.

KS: Baring anything but my own two hands? I think 15.

R29: You were in the Marines. What was your exact title?

KS: My rank was Sergeant.

R29: How do you feel that the military has prepared you for your R29 intern experience?

KS: Well, I was told that no intern has yet to not cry once. I can guarantee I won’t be crying. I have no tear ducts.

R29: Any crazy war stories?

KS: Define crazy.

R29: On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your sword handling abilities?

KS: Sword manual? I would say a three, but back in the day, it would have been higher.

R29: How fast can you assemble your gun?

KS: I can disassemble and assemble a M249 SAW in 54 seconds.

R29: If R29 were under attack, how would you handle the situation to make sure we would come out victorious?

KS: Well, I would first have to give you a quick tutorial on military terrain. Then, I would make sure we all stayed upstairs. We would wait for them to come upstairs, then as they turned the corner…BAM! We attack!

R29: If you had to choose a single super power, what would it be? Flying or invisibility?

KS: Flying, for sure.

R29: Cubs or Sox?

KS: Cubs, but Bears always.

R29: Favorite board game?

KS: Hungry, Hungry Hippos

R29: Favorite meal of the day?

KS: Dinner. It’s usually when I have the biggest and best meal.

R29: If you could be any big cat, what would you be?

KS: Liger. It’s a cross between a lion and a tiger.

R29: How many different locations have you lived?

KS: I’ve lived in Illinois, California, Kuwait, Iraq and Japan.

R29: Where was your favorite?

KS: Japan. Only because California was too hot, Kuwait was way too hot, the weather changes every two seconds in Illinois, and definitely not Iraq for obvious reasons.

R29: Is you could have starred in any movie over the last five years, which one would it be, and why?

KS: I can’t think of a good answer. There are a lot of bad movies.

R29: What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

KS: Alligator sausage. It was pretty good.

R29: If you could break any Guinness world record, what would it be?

KS: To win the most gold medals. I would sweep the Olympics.

R29: Winter or Summer games?

KS: Both!

R29: Longest you’ve ever been awake for one period of time?

KS: Four days (96 hours). They say that’s the point where you are supposed to start hallucinating, but I never did.

R29: Who would win in a stare down contest You or Justin?

KS: Straight-faced? I would definitely win.

Thank you Kellen. We look forward to giving you our Starbucks orders and teaching you the ways of Rule29!
