The Intern’s Tool Kit

Posted by in Random on September 17th, 2009

Currently, I am in the midst of studying to be a designer and despite my self-declared understanding of what it takes to be an actual designer, I have yet to secure my position in the market place as a fully functioning creative. That’s right, I am the seventeenth in a long line of motivated R29 interns. Having only been at R29 for a few weeks, I can’t claim to know all of the things that make a successful intern, but I think I can claim five. Without further ado, The Intern’s Tool Kit, compliments of number seventeen.

Fun in the sun

Posted by in R29 Fun on July 23rd, 2009

Summer is upon us…granted, here in the Chicagoland area we are questioning that! I think today’s high temperature was 76 degrees when normally we are flirting with the 90s. But alas, it is the end of July and summer is in full force.

One of my favorite things about summer is just being outside. You can do so many more things outside that the rest of the year we are relegated to do  inside. You can even do a chore outside that you normally don’t…try drying your laundry all outside. Not only is this different but it’s green too! This article has some great, yet easy, tips on how to enjoy the great outdoors during the summer.

One of my most dreaded part of the summer is hearing the phrase “I’m bored!” from my kids! My first reaction is generally anger, but the reality is they need to figure it out for themselves. Allowing them to have some unscheduled time is a good thing! This article includes great tips on how to help your kids get the most out of summer!

In these crazy economic times we are all looking for frugal ideas of how to make summer fun! Just look to your backyard or neighborhood park…we at Rule29 have taken to Whiffle Ball. Check out the mad pitching skills of this kid. Now that is dedication to a game you love.

What is your favorite part of summer? Least favorite?

Families are beautiful

We hope our readers all had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday. Maybe you got the whole family together to take a family photo. If you did, hopefully it doesn’t land on our new favorite blog Awkward Family Photos. Similar to Sexy People, Awkward Family Photos helps to spread the awkwardness that is our beloved family photo. Not only that, but they help share everything that is awkward.

April Fool

Posted by in Uncategorized on April 1st, 2009

It’s one of our favorite holidays today here at Rule29, April Fool’s Day. It’s the one time of the year where our bad jokes seem good and we get to mess with each other (more). Some of us here at work have been planning for this day for a very long time.

If you’re short on office prank ideas be sure to check out Zug and be sure to mess with the company printer, especially sharking the printer. You can also start baconizing the internet.

Not only are individuals pranking each other, but big corporations have even gotten into the fun. Just today, NPR reported that an animal rights supporter had been actively pursuing legislation to end sports teams’ usage of animal mascots. Remember when Taco Bell bought the Liberty Bell to rename it the Taco Liberty Bell? Or when Burger King announced the arrival of the Left-Handed Whopper? And the most adorable prank when BBC found flying penguins?

What’s your favorite April’s Fools prank? Have you been gearing up for this day since last April first? Are you going to be doing the pranking or be the prankee? Let us know in the comment section.
