Meet Andy aka #19 aka The Intern

Posted by in Inside Rule29 on May 20th, 2011

Andy, our newest intern started this week. As is tradition, the R29 staff bombarded him with a bunch of questions in the interview process and his first couple of days at the Rule29 office. We also figured that some of our R29 friends might have a few questions for him as well so we opened up the floor and asked “What do you want to know about Andy?” on Facebook and Twitter. We’ve compiled some of the best questions and answers to give you a better idea of who is this mystery intern. Read the rest of the entry >

18 (The number keeps growing)

Posted by in Inside Rule29 on May 21st, 2010

Say Hello to the latest R29 intern. Steve is joining a long line of coffee running, design creating, production making, and odd task doing interns here at Rule29. He has the distinguished honor of being Intern #18 and in keeping with tradition we’ve grilled him with a few important questions we think everyone wants to know.

R29: How fast can you grow a beard?
Not very, but when I hit puberty it will probably come in a little faster. I can rock the creeper mustache from week to week though.

R29: What is your fav movie?
It depends on the genre, Comedy: Anchorman, Indie: City of God, Drama: Requiem for a Dream, Epic battle movie: Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back

R29: Do you enjoy drama in your ever day life?
I dislike it, but it sometimes can be a little fun if your not in it. Read the rest of the entry >

Time to Break out the Balloons and Streamers

Posted by in Inside Rule29 on January 19th, 2010

Now that we’re almost two-thirds of the way through January, it’s safe to say that 2010 is fully under way. And with 2010 comes the 10th anniversary of Rule29. Some of you may be thinking, “It’s just ten years, what’s the big deal?” Well, think of all the great things that come in tens, like sets of bowling pins! That’s all I can think of right now, but trust me… there’s more.

We have some special promotions and events planned to celebrate ten years of Making Creative Matter™, but after several long brainstorming sessions, not all of the ideas were perfect. For instance, one idea was to do a series of movie nights where we’d watch films that correlate to the number 10. Movies like 10 Things I Hate About You, or watching 1/30th of the movie 300, or watching Se7en 1.42857143 times. I know, those are great ideas. And if those are the ones that got cut, imagine what we’re really going to do! Seriously, prepare yourself.

Coffee, anyone?

Posted by in Inside Rule29 on January 12th, 2010

That’s not all our interns do, we promise! Actually, we truly believe in internships and would like to give you a brief look inside our internship program. Giving back to our community is one of our greatest values, and as far as design goes, investing in our interns is close to the best way to do that.

Each of us designers can look back on our internship as an invaluable experience. Maybe awkward (think of your first portfolio review), maybe humiliating at times (oh, a tall coffee isn’t a large?), but vital in determining our career path. Why? Real-world experience helps you define expectations and succeed in all aspects of your career, not just what they focus on at school.

Most often we hire college students as interns, but every once in a while we take on a high school intern or two. It’s a great time to check out whether a career may or may not be a good fit for you. As is our usual practice, we’d like to introduce you to our newest intern, Tyler LeVan, through a little interview. Without further adieu:

The Intern’s Tool Kit

Posted by in Random on September 17th, 2009

Currently, I am in the midst of studying to be a designer and despite my self-declared understanding of what it takes to be an actual designer, I have yet to secure my position in the market place as a fully functioning creative. That’s right, I am the seventeenth in a long line of motivated R29 interns. Having only been at R29 for a few weeks, I can’t claim to know all of the things that make a successful intern, but I think I can claim five. Without further ado, The Intern’s Tool Kit, compliments of number seventeen.
